Physical activity may improve more than just our appearance, and perhaps what we can’t physically see changing inside our bodies is much more relevant. Some reasons to adopt an exercise and diet regimen include: improved blood pressure, decreased risk of coronary heart disease, lower cholesterol, and a decreased risk of acquiring diabetes. Metabolic syndrome occurs when one has higher biomarkers in these qualities listed. The more one’s attributes stray away from the norm, the greater chance he or she has of having metabolic syndrome. Energy balance is also important to consider. Energy intake is what and how much one person eats whereas energy expenditure is how much of that energy someone burns. When one exercises, they not only burn more energy while exercising but his or her resting metabolic rate also increases. This means at rest, they are still burning more calories than they were before. Here at Mathis, we can help you reduce your risk of metabolic syndrome. Our Singularity program incorporates exercise and nutrition into one’s daily life. We have meal guidelines and exercise equipment to help you reach your goals. Singularity incorporates intensity, resistance training, cardio, and interval training.
